How J.A. Steel & Son can help your moving day go without a hitch

J.A. Steel & Son were established in 1899 and have moved thousands of customers locally, nationally and internationally. All our staff are fully trained and we operate a full in-house quality standard.

J.A. Steel & Son will sit with you, free of charge and without any obligation, to help you plan your move. Then we'll assign a team of BAR certified staff to prepare your consignment, taking great care of your household furniture and effects throughout the process of your move.

During the move your furniture will be soft blanket wrapped for maximum protection, especially to polished surfaces. Settees, armchairs and mattresses will be wrapped in purpose-made polythene covers that offer the ultimate protection, so your possessions arrive in perfect condition.

We have an in-house training department that expertly trains our staff and ensures we maintain our high levels of service.

If you need to store items, each package will be numbered to correspond with the packing inventory we prepare. This is also your receipt for the items stored. We operate over 30,000 sq ft of fully containerised storage at our depot. We also have 24 hour Red Care Security.

Floor protectors are used during the move to protect carpets and transit wardrobes make sure your clothes reach their destination crease free.

Packing options

Full house pack

Our staff will arrive at an agreed time to start packing, usually the day before the move. All glass, china and silver is packed with acid free paper to protect from tarnishing. Special application pack cartons are used for glass and china that are double wall design and do not collapse under pressure. For books and records we offer a smaller housepack carton which is also very strong. Our staff fully label all cartons to ensure they go to the right rooms. If required we can also provide an unpacking service.

If you require only your glass and china to be packed by us, we can deliver cartons beforehand for you to pack the non-breakable items.

Self pack

Alternatively you may decide to do all your own packing. We can arrange delivery of packaging materials in plenty of time for the move. All of these are provided at cost and delivered to your door.

J.A. Steel & Son recognise that we have a responsibility to maintain our operating procedures as environmentally friendly as possible.

We operate modern Mercedes vehicles, because they keep noise and pollution to a minimum and have greater reliability and fuel efficiency.

Wherever possible, our packaging materials are made from recyclable products.

Insurance cover

J.A. Steel & Son will of course take great care with your removal. However, any moving and storage of furniture and effects involves an element of risk, so insurance cover is always advisable. Your furniture and effects will be insured throughout the move to give you peace of mind.
